Prednisone (Universal) is a synthetic glucocorticoid, a dehydrated analogue of hydrocortisone. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, desensitizing, anti-shock, anti-toxic and immunosuppressive, antipruritic and anti-exudative action.
By interacting with specific cytoplasmic receptors, Prednisone (Universal) forms a complex that penetrates into the cell nucleus, stimulates the synthesis of RNA (ribonucleic acid), which causes the biosynthesis of proteins (including lipocortin).

• Protein metabolism:

o Increases the activity of FEPC (phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase) and improves the synthesis of aminotransferases, activating gluconeogenesis;
o May cause hyperglycemia;
o Water and electrolyte balance: retains sodium and water in the body;
o Stimulates potassium excretion by increasing mineralocorticoid activity;
o Prednisone (Universal), when used as an ointment, has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antipruritic and exudative effects. It also inhibits the formation of arachidonic acid, the formation and release of inflammatory mediators (prostaglandins, histamine, lysosomal enzymes, leukotrienes, etc.)
